The S2 Series of ABB miniature circuit breakers offer a compact solution to protection requirements. The S2 devices are current limiting, DIN rail mounted and can offer a good equivalent to fused systems. The S2 is available with application-specific trip characteristics to provide maximum circuit protection. The breakers offer thermal-magnetic trip protection according to B, C, D, K and Z characteristics.

The S500 heavy-duty circuit breaker fulfi lls these requirements by virtue of its technical features. It is equipped with a thermal and/or electromagnetic release to protect circuits, motors, switchgear and systems from the effects of overload and short-circuit currents. For the worldwide market, the S500 breakers carry UL, CSA, IEC, CE and many other agency approvals.

ABB High Performance MCBs of the S800S series limit energy and power in the event of a short-circuit cut-off. The specially developed double arc chamber system ensures these outstanding operating properties.

Molded Case

Tmax moulded-case circuit-breakers guarantee an extremely high performance level while being progressively smaller in size, simple to install and able to provide increasingly better safety guarantees for the operator. In addition to being ideal for the secondary distribution of alternate and direct current, they feature dedicated solutions for all application requirements. Moulded-case circuit-breakers can be used in low voltage civil and industrial installations with 1 to 3200 A operating current. The Tmax family includes 9 circuit-breaker sizes in three- or four-pole versions.

ABB's FORMULA molded case circuit breaker line offers simplicity and quality in some of the smallest dimensions available. The A1 breaker frame size ranges in amperes from 15 through 100 and the A2 breaker frame size ranges from 125 through 250 amperes. All UL FORMULA circuit breakers offer protection trip units that have fixed thermal and magnetic threshold values and are standard as a fixed version with front terminals.

Air Circuit-Breakers

Air circuit-breakers can be normal, current-limiting, selective and selective current-limiting. Current- limiting circuit-breakers are those that, in the event of a short circuit, are able to limit the let-through current to a value that is lower than the prospective value. This characteristic enables important economic savings to be made when constructing both circuit-breakers and the busbars and conductors that they protect.

Selective circuit-breakers are circuit-breakers that are able to withstand high let-through currents for longer times than those normally needed to open a circuit-breaker, thereby enabling downstream circuit-breakers to trip. The tripping of the protection circuit-breaker that is electrically nearer to the fault guarantees the continuity of service in the rest of the installation. Selective, current-limiting circuit-breakers combine the characteristics of the two families. These circuit-breakers, by exploiting the current-limiting capacity, cause an increase in their resistance to the specific let-through energy, making them therefore able to withstand the fault current for the time needed to guarantee selectivity of the installation.
