Interface Modules

Interface Modules IM-T-9A and IM-T-11A (the Interface Modules) operate on 24V dc inputs and provide isolated redundant output channels for interfacing dc safety controls (such as safety light screens or other safety modules) to safety circuits. These modules can also be used to switch low power capacity of safety controls with low current output rating (see hookup figures and the output configuration specifications).

Interface Modules SC-IM9.. operate on 24V dc inputs and provide isolated redundant output channels for interfacing the Safety Controller's solid-state 24V dc outputs to ac safety circuits. The normally open safety contacts of the Interface Module will follow the action of the safety outputs from the Safety Controller within 3 milliseconds when going from closed to open (for other response times, see Specifications). All Interface Module contacts are rated for up to 690V ac/dc at up to 10 amps.

  • Modules work with Banner STB self-checking touch buttons or can be retrofitted with existing mechanical palm buttons to create a complete, ergonomic two-hand control system.
  • To ensure reliability, modules have a diverse-redundant microcontroller circuit and multiple redundant, force-guided (mechanically linked) output contacts.
  • Anti-tiedown logic requires that both touch buttons are activated within one-half second of each other.
  • Ac and dc voltages are available: 24V ac/dc, 115V ac/24V dc or 230V ac/24V dc.

Speed Monitoring

The SSM-FM-11A** Safe Speed Monitoring Module ("the Module") can be used to monitor a rotating or laterally moving device's stopping, starting, or speed. The Module requires signals from two independent sensors.

As a "standstill" (under-speed) monitor, the Module is often used in combination with hard guarding, access doors, and safety gates with solenoid-lock or -unlock safety switches. When the speed of the monitored device drops below the set switch point (where its speed is no longer considered dangerous), the Module closes its safety output contacts, applying power to the safety switch solenoid, releasing the switch lock and enabling the operator to open the safety gate.

Safety Mat Monitoring

Safety Mat Monitor Modules SM-GA-5A and SM-HA-5A (the "Safety Module") are used to verify the proper operation of 4-wire presence-sensing switching mats (sensors).

In operation, the Safety Module monitors the conductive elements (plates) of the pressure-sensitive mat for shorting of those elements (i.e., when the mat is stepped on) and certain faults, such as shorts to other sources of power or ground (0V), or open connecting wires. With a +24V dc supply, Channel 1 (S11-S12) supplies > 20V dc that is pulsed low and Channel 2 (S21-S22) supplies < 2V that is pulsed high; when these two channels are shorted together, the safety output contacts open (13-14, 23-24, 33-34, and 43-44).
