Proven in a great number of applications and offering a substantial number of additional features that have
been added over the years, this motor series can not only be used as IEC standalone motor with feet and/or flanges but is also
ideally suited for direct mounting to the standard helical,
Parallel Shaft Helical,
Helical-Bevel,
Helical-Worm, and
SPIROPLAN Gear Units. The energy efficient motors of the DTE/DVE
type are the first motors in the modular system worldwide that have been using copper diecasting technology for the rotor cage
since 2002.
The beverage and food industry and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry place high hygiene demands on
production facilities. The drive solutions used in the past made it very difficult to clean the production systems as thoroughly
as required. Standard motors often come equipped with cooling fins and fans in which dirt can accumulate and germs and bacteria
may be distributed in air swirls. SEW Eurodrive ASEPTIC motors of the DAS series have a smooth surface and are not equipped with
fans.
Surprisingly few mechanical engineers and operators know that over 95 % of a motor's life cycle costs are
energy costs. This is why only few plants are fitted with energy efficient motors. SEW-EURODRIVE is the first company in the
world to implement copper die-casting technology in industrial series production successfully since 2002. Result: Highly energy

SEW-EURODRIVE offers various optional protective measures for operation of motors and gearmotors under
special ambient conditions. We provide KS corrosion protection and OS surface protection. Optimum protection for motors is
offered by a combination of corrosion and surface protection. KS corrosion protection for motors comprises the following
measures:
- All retaining screws that are loosened during operation are made of stainless steel.
- The nameplates are made of stainless steel. Various motor parts are coated with a top coat.
- Flange contact surfaces and shaft ends are treated with a temporary anti-corrosion agent.
- Additional measures for brake motors.
In addition to standard surface protection, motors and gear units also have the option of surface protection
OS1 to OS4. We can also carry out special procedure Z in addition to OS1 to OS4. Special procedure Z means that large surface
recesses are sprayed with a rubber filling prior to coating.

 SEW Eurodrive Brakes |
On request, SEW-EURODRIVE motors and gearmotors can be supplied with an integrated mechanical brake. The
brake is an electromagnetic disc brake with a DC coil that opens electrically and brakes using spring force. The brake is
applied in a power failure, making it compliant with fundamental safety requirements. The brake can also be released mechanically
if equipped with a manual brake release. Either a hand lever or a setscrew is supplied with the brake for this purpose. The hand
lever springs back automatically, and the setscrew is lockable. The brake is activated by a brake control system accommodated
either in the wiring space of the motor or in the control cabinet.

The new modular system of asynchronous AC motors from SEW-EURODRIVE is a development based on the established
motor series. The new DR series AC motors combine the entire range of required motor efficiency levels as well as energy
efficient motors making it a future-proof innovation of the highest quality. In the development of energy efficient motors,
SEW-EURODRIVE became the first company in the world to succeed in using die-cast copper technology in industrial high-volume
series production in 2002.
The modular DR motor system from SEW-EURODRIVE offers three different brake sizes per motor size and as
cost-optimized Rotary Position Sensors integrated in the motor. All
other additional features of the new DR series are available in all energy efficiency levels. The DR motor supports any energy
efficiency standard worldwide and even already meets the upcoming IEC standard. They bring a whole range of unique benefits to
planners and users.
In an AC motor, electrical energy can never be converted into mechanical energy without any losses. The goal
of many international regulations, directives and standards is to reduce these losses. The two parts of the motor standard IEC
60034, part 2-1 and part 30, will provide an internationally uniform and accepted procedure for determining and classifying the
level of efficiency of asynchronous AC motors. The diversity (former part 2 of IEC 60034, IEC 61972 or IEEE 112) will then be a
thing of the past and manufacturers as well as users can be on the safe side. DR motor types DRS, DRE and DRP surpass the
required levels of efficiency and belong to classes IE1, IE2 and IE3.
SEW Eurodrive BE brake is based on the extremely successful BM(G) brake, but was further developed in many
aspects. The brake size has so far been unalterably linked to the motor size. "Less" brake is only possible by reducing the
braking torque with a modified brake spring. The new combination options of DR motors with BE brakes are no longer subject to
this unalterability. The DR motor can be combined with two or three different BE brake sizes. Depending on the braking torque
or braking work required, the DR motor can be combined with the ideal BE brake.
Brake mounting to motors size 90 and larger offers another special feature. The brake itself is mounted on a
friction plate, which only has to be attached to the endshield. Without opening the motor, the unit can now be demounted and
replaced - also by a larger or smaller brake.

The new built-in encoders are unique in the modular DR motor system. Instead of an external encoder
mounted to the fan guard of the non-drive end, the encoder can now be installed between the endshield and the fan. This means
that any extra length caused by mounted encoders is avoided. 3 variants are available:
- HTL signals in A+B tracks (+ negated)
- Sin/cos signals in A+B tracks (+ negated)
- Signals of the rotation counter as absolute value
