ABB Surge Protection
The OVR Type 1 SPDs
(Surge Protective Devices) of ABB use the MOV technology. These devices have an impulse current capability of 15 kA
(in 10/350 µs waveshape), available in single or multi pole versions, and are able to handle direct lightning strike. Their
protection level is low (Up = 1.2 kV) and there is no need for a decoupling coil.

Sola Active Tracking
The STFE Elite DIN Rail Mount Series
combines Active Tracking technology with UL Listed surge protection to protect against the full spectrum of voltage
transients and surges. It continuously tracks the input AC power line responding instantly into action upon detecting
extraneous high frequency noise and high voltage transients.

 Class I Lightning Conductors |
Class I Lightning Arrester with Spark Gap
During lightning strikes, triggered sparkover gaps are used to establish the required equipotential
bonding between the building's surge protection and the power supplier's earthing system. Weidmüller's sparkover gaps have an
electronic trigger function.
This triggers so quickly that the subsequent arrester class (PU II) is discharged. No decoupling is
required when using Weidmüller's class II arresters (Uc: 280V) with the PU 1 TSG+ and the PU 1 TSG (Uc: 330V, 350V, 440V and
550V). The optical functional display alerts to outages in both the mains power or the trigger electronics. The pluggable PUI
TSG+ modules feature a remote alarm contact, a status display (which shows the status arrester) and a 180°-pivoting
protective unit.

 Combination Arrester |
Class I Combination Arresters
Combination arrester: combined lightning and surge protection for low-voltage consumer installations and
electronic devices. The PU I+II COMBI combined overvoltage protection includes the PU 1 TSG triggered sparkover gap (class I),
the PU x C varistor arrester (class II) and the cross connectors in the set. It protects low-voltage consumer installations
and electronic devices against overvoltages that can occur as a result of atmospheric discharges (thunderstorms) or switching
operations (transients). The PU COMBI complies with IEC 61643-1 (2/98). The overvoltage protection in the PU R COMBI form has
a remote signalling function achieved via a floating contact.

 Class II with Varistors |
Class II With High-Power Varistor
- Weidmüller overvoltage protection type PU II protects low-voltage consumer installations and electronic devices
against overvoltages that can occur as a result of atmospheric discharges (thunderstorms) or switching operations
(transients).
- The PU II series complies with the requirements of class II to IEC 61643-1:05-03, type 2 to EN 61643-11, and class
C to DIN VDE0675 pt 6: 89-11A1:96-02/A2:96-10
|
 Class III with Varistors |
Class III With High-Power Varistor
- Low-voltage consumer installations, small distribution boards and electronics overvoltage protection, class III
(D-arrester)
- Our PU III and PU D overvoltage protection is used for protecting low-voltage consumer installations and electronic
devices from overvoltages which occur from atmospheric discharges (lightning) of from switching operations (transients).
PU III and PU D can be incorporated into small or multi-floor distribution boards. PU III complies with IEC 61643-1. PU
D complies with DIN VDE 0675, part 6, class C, (Nov 89), part 6, A2 (Oct 96) and with IEC 61643-1 (Feb 98).

 Class III Adapter Plug |
Class III Adapter Plugs
- Overvoltage protection for socket outlets - PU D ZS
- Class III overvoltage protection
- PU D ZS device overvoltage protection unit, offering protection against transient overvoltages to end devices
connected to grounded outlets. The device overvoltage protection unit with grounded outlets is designed for 230 V/16 A,
complies with the requirements of IEC 61643-1 class III, and is used in combination with PU C protection class II. The
PU D ZS is fitted with temperature-monitored varistors. These are isolated from the power supply in the event of excessive
heating due to pulses. The integral red warning lamp indicates that the protection is not functioning. If that is so, the
PU D ZS must be replaced.

 WAVEFILTER |
Overvoltage Protection WAVEFILTER
- Simple radio interference suppression in the switchgear cabinet, with WAVEFILTER
- The WAVEFILTER series eliminates the slow process of
Screwing in Power Supply Filters. The filter is snapped onto a TS 35
DIN rail and then connected to the interference device. The two-stage WAVEFILTER has a width of 22.5 mm and is available
in versions of 1 A, 3 A, 6 A and 10 A. It provides high attenuation.

 Surge Monitoring Modules |
Surge Monitoring Module
Transient surge voltages are active for time periods ranging from µs to ms. The surge voltage peak,
however, can reach up to several thousand volts during this short time period. The causes for this include direct or remote
lightning strikes, short-term interruptions, or switching operations involving large loads. Electrical facilities can be
protected by the use of surge arresters. The arresters safely short-circuit dangerous voltage differences and discharge this
energy. Permanent surge voltages can occur for several seconds or several hours. Thus this voltage exceeds the tolerance level
of the voltage rating. Permanent surge voltage arise from fluctuations in unstable voltage supplies. A neutral-wire
interruption in a three-phase system can also lead to an unacceptably high voltage level. This permanent surge voltage is a
prohibited state of operations. The PU Vlimit is suitable for detecting permanent raised voltages. Together with an RCD
(residual current device) it can cut-out to 30 mA or 0.3 A.
