Coupling Modules in a Terminal Block Design

During the design of compact components, it is especially challenging to maintain minimal power loss since the small housing can exchange very little power with its surroundings. Power Solid-State Relays

In many industrial applications, the switching performance of contactors is not sufficient to switch loads reliably in the long term, so heating elements on plastics machines, for example, are activated in cycles to regulate the heating output.

Electromechanical elements soon reach their performance limits. Switching noises produced by contactors in refrigeration technology, plant engineering and processes, where people work in close proximity to machines, often have a negative effect on concentration or are considered disturbing. This is where Power solid-state relays, with their wear-free and silent switching or regulating function, prove useful.

Based on a wide range of enclosures, Weidmuller offers the optimum component for every application. On the input side, the solid-state relays are available with rated control voltages of between 3.5-240 V or an analogue input of 4-20 mA.

Weidmuller's new SAFESERIES safety relay is certified by TuV Nord in accordance with EN 61508 for the safety integrity level SIL3. This relay is equipped with a wide-range voltage input on the monitoring circuit from 24 V AC/DC to 230 V AC/DC. This allows it to be used individually for applications such as back-up systems or in overflow tank safety systems. The safety relay also features special circuitry in the input circuit. This makes the module immune to the test pulses that typically occur in circuits of this type.

Timing Relays

Timing relays are used in automation engineering in order to compensate for malfunctions caused by high clock rates. Short pulses are extended and hence are reliably identified by downstream control components. Various timing functions such as make and break delays, clock generator and star/delta switchover are available to users.

By introducing JACKPAC, the new M12 Signal Box with the high IP67 ingress protection. Weidmuller can now provide a modular and versatile concept that makes it possible to condition signals in an industrial environment. Requiring no additional enclosure, these modules can be installed directly on the machine, in the production plant, conveyor system or within a process.

The M12 connector, which is standardised all over the world, makes it possible to integrate the JACKPAC at any point in the sensor-actuator cabling. The fixed pin assignment means it is easy to install and is protected against polarity reversal. This versatility really comes into its own when an installation needs to be altered or modernised, simply because no additional enclosures or cabling are required.

Pulse transformer technology for isolating I/O signals offers significant advantages over optical isolation and electromechanical relays. Most notably, pulse transformer I/O modules provide higher transient immunity and high input-to-output isolation.

The high transient immunity means the Weidmuller - DELCON I/O modules are ideal for I/O applications where electrical noise is a problem. No additional suppression components are needed even when used with long unshielded signal cables, inductive loads or 'noisy' power lines.

The limitations of optocoupler based solid-state relays disappear when pulse transformer I/O modules are used. For instance, the standard AC output module SLO 24TR has near zero leakage current; requires no minimum load; can be used with any power factor 0 to 1; is rated for both general use and inductive loads at 3A; and is immune to both load line and signal line spikes.

DRM Series

The new DRM miniature relays complement Weidmuller's wide range of proven electromechanical and solid-state devices. DRM relays offer functionality to meet industrial standards, at an economical price point.

The DRM is available in 2 and 4 changeover contact versions for AC and DC voltages to suit most industrial and commercial applications.

DRM relays are available with LED status indication, as well as a test lever for quick and easy commissioning and troubleshooting. The relay bases are DIN-rail mountable and feature high quality screw terminals.

HVDC Series

The HVDC relay module is specifically designed for switching high DC voltage loads. Nominal battery voltages of 125Vdc and 250Vdc are often used by power generation companies as back-up supplies. A typical application for the HVDC is as an interposing relay between a PLC and an electromechanical contactor operated from the battery backup power.

IDEC Relays

The RY/RM Series of relays satisfy applications for lower level switching needs such as pilot lights or logic level devices.
