Red Lion Controls announces the release of the MPI expansion card for the G3 series HMI. This new card allows the G3 to communicate with Siemens' devices that support MPI, without having to use a converter cable. The G3 series HMIs, which already offer advanced protocol conversion and data management, now also connect directly to MPI networks. With the release of this new card, users can quickly add MPI connectivity to any G3. The card is simply added to the expansion slot during installation.

With the G3's powerful protocol conversion facility, combined with the standard offering of three serial ports and a multiple-protocol Ethernet port, users can now realize complete system integration.

Red Lion is pleased to announce the release of our new and improved CUB7T Line of Counters & Timers. In updating the CUB7 line, features were combined to reduce the total number of available models from 24 to 12. The counters and timers are available in two input formats-low voltage (28 VDC max) and high voltage (50 to 250 VAC max), and are offered with three available liquid crystal display options-reflective, red backlight and green backlight.

Enhancements include input DIP switches that allow low voltage models to have sourcing and sinking inputs. All units have front panel keypads that can be used to reset the display. These keypads can be enabled or disabled via a single DIP switch if no action is needed from the front panel. The standard units are supplied with 22 gauge wires for external connections. An optional terminal block is available for those customers that prefer wiring terminals. Power is provided from an internal lithium battery, designed to provide up to 7 years of trouble-free operation.

Operating distance is independent of target color, shape or surface structure:

For reliable operation, the LED (reception indication) must light up green. A yellow LED indicates the output state. Devices with 2 m PVC cable 4 x 0.25 mm2 or 4-pole S12 connector are standard. Other cable types or lengths are available upon request.

The New CONTRINEX Color Sensors are well suited for color control as well as for use in color sorting processes. The devices feature 3 teachable color channels with independent 200 mA outputs, which allow for three color tones to be programmed. In addition, the teach process offers a choice of 5 different tolerance levels. Whereas small tolerances allow for minimal color differences to be recognized without fail, larger tolerances permit a certain color variation. Due to the unique optics of the Contrinex color sensor, color detection within the operating range of 30 mm to 40 mm is virtually independent of target distance.

In addition to its RFID system with all-metal components for particularly demanding environments (low-frequency technology), Contrinex has now also developed an RFID product range which works according to high-frequency technology (13.56 MHz). This new standard system allows for the integration of all tags complying with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 15693 standard. It is moreover particularly user friendly, due to the fact that its read/write modules can be connected directly to an RS485 field bus.

In this way, a network of up to 253 read/write modules may be built up. By means of a USB adaptor, up to 10 read/write modules can be directly addressed physically from a control console. The physical address of a specific read/write module is determined by means of a selector built into the device. And by programming each read/write module separately, up to 253 addresses can be controlled. To ensure easy use of the system, a demo programme provides the user with an introduction to the system.

Contrinex Series 0507 miniature rectangular sensors with narrowly focused light beam detect:

• Objects through holes and gaps
• Closely lined-up objects
• Laterally approaching objects whose distance from the sensor can't be kept constant.

Series 0507 sensors are characterized by their remarkably small size of 5 x 7 mm, with a housing length of 40 mm. The spherical sapphire lens is scratch resistant and projects a virtually cylindrical light beam with a diameter < 4 mm, permitting vertical as well as horizontal mounting. Despite their small size, these devices are fully self-contained. As a result, they are less costly and easier to install than fiber-optic alternatives. And, because of their sensing range, they can also replace larger switches where mounting space is limited. These devices are short-circuit proof and operate in a voltage range of 10 to 30 VDC, and with an output current of up to 100 mA. They are fully vacuum potted and, as a result, largely insensitive to environmental influences (degree of protection IP 67).
