 APT Series |
Monitoring Current provides accurate condition information in
nearly all applications, but there are some places where power monitoring is a better solution. For energy usage cost
allocation, monitoring power is best because utility companies bill based on watts used rather than current. Adding a power
transducer to monitor one specific area of a plant, or one specific process, will help management share the energy costs
across the entire operation.
Power monitoring is ideal for applications where an inductive load, such as a motor or transformer, will
be fully loaded sometimes and only lightly loaded at other times. With loads such as these, the power factor is poor when
the load is light and better as the load increases.
|
|
Current demand will not increase in a linear manner until the load requires roughly 50% of the nameplate full load
amps. Power monitoring is well suited for applications where the demand for power exceeds the feeding system capacity. When
the load increases above a certain point, the power transducer output signal can be used to trigger load shedding events.
More complex power monitoring devices can be used to monitor many electrical parameters at the same time: voltage, current,
power factor, peak demand, harmonic content, time of day usage, apparent power and real power.
|
 APS Series |
NK Technologies offers several power monitoring transducers. The APS series is well suited for monitoring
motor driven loads, or any load where the current is balanced across each phase. The sensor is placed over one conductor, and
the line voltage is connected to two terminals. The loop powered, 4-20 mA output signal is scaled at the factory to represent
the demand in watts, based on the primary voltage and the current through the sensor opening.
The APS products are suitable for all single phase loads, and balanced three phase loads, with output
accurately representing the wattage used. The product features simple two wire loop powered connection to a PLC, data logger
or panel meter.

 Aromat/NAiS |
Matsushita Electric Works introduces the new ultra fast compact FP-X
series Panasonic PLC after great success with the compact FP0 series Aromat NAIS PLC. The FP-X is set to redefine the
industrial brick style PLC with new levels of expandability in a small robust package. The program capacity of 32 ksteps,
exceeding the capacity of most compact Panasonic PLCs, can flexibly handle a wide variety of applications requiring future
equipment expansion. Excellent for communication applications with the ability to network 16 FP-X (master to master network),
or 99 FP-X (master to slave network).

 SCP-X Series |
Emerson Group has introduced a new SCP-X field
power supply that delivers 24Vdc power from an IP67-compliant package resistant to dust, water and other contaminants. Designed as
a stand-alone unit that can be mounted directly to a machine, the SCP-X reduces end-user costs by eliminating the need for a
separate cabinet and simplifying I/O device cabling. The metal outer case withstands physical abuse while efficiently dissipating
heat to deliver consistent power from -40 to +60C.

ABB Wireless Input Output Pad WIOP |
ABB Group's Low Voltage Division has introduced a wireless I/O pad, simplifying the
process of transmitting and receiving data via a central control system for complex automated applications in factories. The
Wireless Input/Output Pad (WIOP) forms part of ABB's range of tools used to create a factory environment where automated machines
can be operated wirelessly. The pad has a total of eight inputs and eight configurable input/outputs.

ADO IDC (Insulation Displacement Connection) |
Entrelec - Member Of ABB Group has released a new family of terminal blocks
that dramatically reduce installation times without compromising safety. Based on ABB's insulation displacement connection (IDC)
technology, the new ADO system terminal blocks can reduce wiring times by up to 80% compared with conventional terminal blocks. The
system eliminates the most common risks associated with connections, such as forgetting to strip the wire, folding over of wire
strands, stripping too much wire, incorrect tightening torque or badly inserted terminal ends.

 TURCK Powerfast Connectors |
Hans TURCK GmbH & Co. KG announces new A-Size 3 and 4-pin 7/8 16UN
powerfast connectors that provide up to 600 Volts and 15 Amps of power. These IP67 rated connectors provide a modular
wiring system designed to handle high current applications for machine power distribution, while providing resistance to
vibration commonly associated with conveyors, motors and material handling applications.
|
|
The cordsets are available with a tray rated, exposed run PVC flexlife cable, with or without STOOW
rating, and 14 AWG wires that allow you to replace hard wiring with a robust, quick disconnect system that saves the time
and money spent installing a conduit system. The A-Size powerfast line offers male and female, straight connectors,
standard and custom lengths, and pigtails or extensions. To make the system complete, fully encapsulated mating
receptacles, with 1/2"-14 NPT mounting threads are available.

 IZUMI Japan |
New From IDEC Corporation, the Pentra PLC range
includes 12 CPU modules that are compatible with the company's current MicroSmart input/output modules and are the same physical
size as the present CPUs. More than double the memory size, up to 275 times faster processing speed and the capability for
floating point maths means the Idec Pentra PLC can handle most complex tasks that are thrown at it. The CPU has high speed
counter inputs counting at a maximum frequency of 100kHz.
