Laser Barrel Sensor For Conveying

A new 318 laser barrel sensor being introduced by Leuze Mayser will appeal to those companies developing and building automated conveying systems; its exceptionally high switching frequency of 5kHz allows precise positioning and detection of objectswhile the hollow barrel design means its accuracy is unaffected by changes in ambient fluctuations.

Other key features pertinent to designers of handling and conveying systems are the M18 plastic housingwhich is believed to be the world’s shortest for this type of deviceand the optic options that allow the 318 sensor to be mounted either vertically or horizontally. These benefits enable the 318 sensor to be mounted where access is restricted and within the confines of the conveyor.

The new barrel sensor is available in three formats: through-beam for sensing over distances up to 120m is the standard modelor Leuze Mayser can supply a high-resolution version covering 18m for the detection of small objectsa polarised retro-reflective sensor for distances of 15mandwhere sensing is up to 35cmthere is a diffuse-reflective sensor. For each sensor type the laser beam geometrywhich is convergent and fix-focussedhas been optimised to achieve the very best performance from this compact design of optical sensor.
